October....dog breast cancer awareness!

​As you may know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. While this is so important for all of the ladies in your lives to go get checked, we also want to shed some light on our furladies, as well. This hits home to me, because as I am typing this email to you, my 7 year old baby, Kaia, is currently having surgery right now to remove a mammary tumor that was found by my partner out of the blue. We brought this to our vet's attention when we brought her in for a check-up for an unrelated reason, and that is when we got the news: it's definitely a mammary tumor.

OUR THOUGHTS:  WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO? This is my baby! Then I recalled a conversation my vet had with me about 6 years ago....after Kaia's first heat cycle.... telling me that the odds of a tumor increase significantly if we were to delay spaying her. We scheduled the surgery as soon as we could. 

I urge you as fellow puppy lovers, for your furbabies health, please spread the word how important it is for them to get spayed as soon as possible, not just for reproduction control, but to decrease the chance of cancer. 

Be sure to regularly check for odd shaped lumps around their teets (this is how we found Kaia's) and if you find anything suspicious, CALL YOUR VET. 


Her two younger brothers (Duke and Chex) are anxiously awaiting her return today, and we have every confidence in our vet to excise the masses, but itsjustpuppylove Pet Care wants to share with you some more information regarding this subject, and please feel free to contact your veterinarian for more information.
